5 Things You Might Not Think to Pack For Your Zion E-Bike Rental

by | Aug 20, 2022

Almost everything that you’ll need for your ride is included with your Zion e-bike rental. Not only will you get an incredible e-bike from Greater Zion E-Bikes, and any attachments that you add like a passenger seat, but you’ll also get a helmet, a bike lock for securing your bike when you take a break, and more.

But while you could hit the trail with only the items included with your rental, having a few other items along can help make your ride much more comfortable—including a few items that you might not think to grab as you pack for your vacation.

Ready to enjoy an incredible Zion e-bike adventure? Keep reading to learn a few unexpected things that you might not think to pack

1. Trail-friendly Snacks

Riding an e-bike in Zion National Park might not be quite as physically challenging as hiking to the summit of Angels Landing. But that doesn’t mean that you won’t work up an appetite! With limited dining options in the park, it’s a good idea to pack some trail-friendly snacks with you for your ride.

Trail-friendly snacks help you maintain energy and focus, and are designed to hold up to being stuffed in a backpack or exposed to the heat. That makes them great for bike rides, too.

Some great trail-friendly foods include nuts, dried fruits, jerky (a great source of protein!), granola bars or cereal bars with whole grains and plenty of fiber, trail mix, and hard candies.

Trail snacks that are less than ideal include potato chips, pretzels, popcorn, and sugary candy such as chocolates or gummy bears. These can be crushed while bouncing around in your backpack while you ride, or will melt in the heat.

2. Blister Block and Body Powder

Nothing ruins a fun vacation faster than a painful blister or chaffing. If you’ll be breaking in a new pair of boots or shoes for your vacation, don’t forget to grab a bar or blister block. Even if you only plan to go e-biking in Zion and not hiking, new shoes can still rub your feet as you pedal and as you get on and off your bike. A stick of blister block in your bag means that you can treat trouble spots before they form blisters that can ruin your trip.

Body powder is another item that you might not think you’ll pack. But if you find that you need it, you’ll be glad that you did! If you’ve never enjoyed a long bike ride before, aren’t used to the heat, or are trying out some new clothes during your trip, you may find yourself chaffing in unexpected places. Having a small container of body powder can help you treat your sore spots so you can get back to enjoying your day.

3. Binoculars

You won’t have to trek up Angels Landing to enjoy some great views during your ride. But when you spot a bighorn sheet on the side of a rocky cliff face, a soaring California Condor on a perch high above, or simply want to get a better look at Zion’s peaks in the distance, you’ll wish you had an easy way to get a closer look. Before you leave for your next Zion vacation, grab a pair of binoculars.

Binoculars are a great way to see wildlife and landmarks up close, especially in a park like Zion, which has many different elevations and peaks. They are a wonderful piece of gear to have along for any outdoor adventure. While there are plenty of professional — and pricey — options out there, many pairs are inexpensive and also small enough to fit easily into a backpack, so there’s no need to worry about carrying extra weight or space when packing up for a trip.

4. A Map

With your Zion e-bike rental, you’ll be able to ride along the road into Zion’s Lower Canyon, as well as on Pa’rus Trail. With limited options for where to ride in the park, you might think that you won’t need a map. But if this is your first Zion e-bike rental and you aren’t familiar with the park, it’s a good idea to grab one.

Having a park map with you will help you find other important things, like restrooms or water fountains. It can also help you find hiking trails, in case you want to take a break from riding and do some hiking instead. You can stop by the Zion Visitor Center just past the South Entrance to grab a map and learn a little about the park before you start your ride.

5. Bug Spray.

You already know how important a bottle of sunscreen is during your Zion e-bike ride. But there’s another bottle that you might want to consider grabbing; some bug spray.

Zion is full of some incredible wildlife, like bighorn sheep, mule deer, ringtails, and more. But it’s also home to some less welcome, though no less important ones. This includes ants, mosquitos, and flies.

Having bug spray along can help keep you from getting bit while hiking or relaxing at a picnic area while taking a break from your ride. Like sunscreen, don’t forget to reapply your bug spray, especially if you’ve been sweating.

You don’t have to be an experienced biker to make the most of your Zion e-bike rental. But having a few extra items, like blister block and bug spray along on your ride can help you stay safe and comfortable, and let you make the most of your Zion e-bike adventure.
